Winter tires in Brooklin are not a cosmetic upgrade. Once the temperature sits around 7°C, all-season rubber stiffens and stopping distances on Baldwin Street, Winchester Road, and Thickson Road North get longer. A winter tire uses a softer compound and a tread that bites snow and slush instead of polishing it.
Brooklin is north Whitby. Baldwin Street, Winchester Road, and Thickson Road North drop you down to Dundas Street East and the shop. The first snowfall often sticks on the hills north of town before it sticks on the 401, which is why Brooklin drivers book the winter swap early.
Those north roads are also where a worn winter tire from last year gets exposed. If the set in the garage looks shallow or the sidewalls are cracked, bring them in anyway. We will tell you before they go back on the car.
411 Drives sells and installs winter tires for daily drivers, trucks, SUVs, and European cars. Many Ontario insurers also ask for a winter tire discount form — we install the tires, and your insurer sets the discount. We do not promise a dollar amount. We put the right rubber on the car.
Look for the three-peak mountain snowflake on the sidewall. That mark is the winter tire. An all-season with a little snow pictured on the label is not the same thing, and it is not what you want on Baldwin Street, Winchester Road, and Thickson Road North in January.
