Winter tires in Pickering are not a cosmetic upgrade. Once the temperature sits around 7°C, all-season rubber stiffens and stopping distances on Liverpool Road, Brock Road, Whites Road, and Kingston Road get longer. A winter tire uses a softer compound and a tread that bites snow and slush instead of polishing it.
Pickering is further west, past Ajax. Liverpool Road, Brock Road, Whites Road, and Kingston Road are the main corridors. The drive to the shop is a straight run east on the 401 to Thickson or Brock, then south to 1020 Dundas Street East.
The Pickering waterfront and the ridge north of Kingston Road do not get the same snow. Wet, heavy snow by the lake and harder packed snow inland both punish all-season rubber once the air stays below 7°C. A Whitby appointment still beats waiting for a closer shop that is booked solid the week of the first storm.
411 Drives sells and installs winter tires for daily drivers, trucks, SUVs, and European cars. Many Ontario insurers also ask for a winter tire discount form — we install the tires, and your insurer sets the discount. We do not promise a dollar amount. We put the right rubber on the car.
Look for the three-peak mountain snowflake on the sidewall. That mark is the winter tire. An all-season with a little snow pictured on the label is not the same thing, and it is not what you want on Liverpool Road, Brock Road, Whites Road, and Kingston Road in January.
