Winter tires in Ajax are not a cosmetic upgrade. Once the temperature sits around 7°C, all-season rubber stiffens and stopping distances on Harwood Avenue, Westney Road, Salem Road, Bayly Street, and Audley Road get longer. A winter tire uses a softer compound and a tread that bites snow and slush instead of polishing it.
Ajax sits just west of the shop. Harwood, Westney, Salem, Bayly, and Audley all feed Dundas Street East and the 401, which run straight to 1020 Dundas Street East in Whitby. Most Ajax winter-tire appointments are that short eastbound drive.
Ajax gets the same lake-effect weather as the rest of the lakeshore. Bayly Street and Kingston Road pack down into polished snow before the plows finish the side streets, and the 401 between Salem and Thickson is a bad place to discover your all-seasons have gone hard. Book the swap while the forecast is still a warning, not a closure.
411 Drives sells and installs winter tires for daily drivers, trucks, SUVs, and European cars. Many Ontario insurers also ask for a winter tire discount form — we install the tires, and your insurer sets the discount. We do not promise a dollar amount. We put the right rubber on the car.
Look for the three-peak mountain snowflake on the sidewall. That mark is the winter tire. An all-season with a little snow pictured on the label is not the same thing, and it is not what you want on Harwood Avenue, Westney Road, Salem Road, Bayly Street, and Audley Road in January.
